Palworld Crude Oil: Where to Place Extractors, Oil Fields, and Oil Rigs

Crude Oil is the sticky mid-game material you pump from oil fields. Item text is blunt: install a Crude Oil Extractor on an oil field. Oil Rigs also dump Crude Oil as clear loot when you want a one-time haul instead of waiting on pumps.

What Crude Oil is used for

• Wing Cell (Wing Pack fuel): 20 Crude Oil + 10 Mythical Wood.
• Flamethrower and Missile ammo recipes that chew Crude Oil in bulk.
• A handful of accessories and Super Frag Grenades that ask for small amounts.
• Plasteel (Electric Furnace): 2 Crude Oil + 5 Ore. That bar feeds the Plasteel armor set, mid-late guns, and mobility accessories below.

Extractors: the real grind

• Crude Oil Extractor unlocks around level 50. Place it on an oil field marker and keep power online.
• High-pressure Crude Oil Extractor is the ancient tech upgrade around level 51. It can produce Crude Oil even when the field would otherwise feel dry, so it is the long-term base pump.
• Plan the base next to a dense oil field cluster so power and transport stay short.
• If pumps sit idle, check power first, then whether the Extractor is actually snapped to a field.

Oil Rigs for burst income

• Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig and Platform Oil Rig both roll Crude Oil on clear (often 5-20, with large platform tables going much higher).
• Test Drilling Rig can dump 50-150 on a full clear when you need a spike for Wing Cells.
• Treat Rigs as weekly bursts. Treat Extractors as the infinite loop.

Planning a base around Crude Oil

Crude Oil is one of the few resources worth relocating a base for. Unlike Ore or Wood, oil fields are not everywhere, and a base sitting right on top of a dense field cluster saves you a permanent haul every single day. If your current base is far from an oil field, weigh building a small satellite Extractor outpost against constantly running Crude Oil in from elsewhere.

Extractor troubleshooting

• If an Extractor produces nothing, check power first. A dead grid silently stops output with no obvious warning.
• Confirm the Extractor is actually snapped onto the oil field marker and not just placed nearby. A few steps off the marker and it will not produce at all.
• High-pressure Crude Oil Extractor is worth the ancient tech unlock even if your current field feels productive. It keeps producing when a regular Extractor would start to feel dry.
• Transport Pals matter here too. A full Extractor with nobody hauling the output just backs up and slows the whole line.

Balancing Extractors against Oil Rig runs

Extractors are the slow, steady income. Oil Rigs are the burst. Do not treat one as a replacement for the other. Run Extractors at home for the daily Plasteel and ammo demand, then clear an Oil Rig specifically when you need a large one-time spike for a Wing Cell push or a big crafting session.
