Where to Find Chromite, Coal & Quartz in Palworld

Quick answer

Chromite is detected with a Metal Detector (Technology level 58) on late islands. Feybreak expeditions and Silvegis or Smokie Pal drops also top it up between node runs.

Players search Chromite, Coralum, Pure Quartz, Nightstar Sand, and Coal as if they were the same rock. They are not. Each unlocks a different furnace, accessory, or armor tier.

Chromite is the ore people search most right now. It is not Coal and it is not Pure Quartz. Chromite feeds Hexolite. Coal feeds Refined Ingots. Pure Quartz feeds circuits and Pal Metal. Coralum, Feybreak Hexolite Quartz, and Sunreach Soralite are later named rocks on their own map filters.

Ore

Ore

Open map · Ore nodes

Becomes an ingot when refined using a furnace. Can be found in caves and other places.

Coal

Coal

Open map · Coal

Coal often found in caves and other places. Required to create high quality metal.

Pure Quartz

Pure Quartz

Open map · Quartz

Pure Quartz often found in snowy fields and similar places. Required to create Circuit Board.

Chromite

Chromite

Open map · Chromite

A type of metal buried underground. It can be detected with a Metal Detector on certain islands.

Sulfur

Sulfur

Open map · Sulfur

Sulfur that can be found in volcanoes and such. Necessary for making Gunpowder.

Hexolite Quartz

Hexolite Quartz

Open map · Feybreak

A rare crystal found only in Feybreak. Over many years, Paladium has condensed and transformed, now shining with a rainbow-like glow.

Coralum Ore

Coralum Ore

Deep sea · Item page

A rare ore formed over countless years in the deep sea. Can be retrieved from the depths with a magnet and fishing rod.

Soralite

Soralite

Sunreach · Item page

A rare ore produced only in Sunreach. Within its host rock of overwhelming density resides a mysterious pattern and radiance.

Ore (early copper rock)

  • Furnace product: Ingot (2 Ore). Also feeds Refined Ingot with Coal, Pal Metal with Pure Quartz, and Plasteel with Crude Oil.
  • Dense in caves and open nodes across the early islands. Expeditions from Crescent Moon Shore through Mount Obsidian dump large stacks.

Coal

  • Pairs with Ore for Refined Ingot (2 Ore + 2 Coal).
  • Coralum Ingot wants 5 Coal per craft with Coralum Ore.
  • Thermal Core and some fire boosters also spend Coal.
  • Map pins plus Desiccated Dunes expeditions are the reliable volume sources.

Pure Quartz

  • Snow and cold biomes. Required for Circuit Boards (Refined Circuit Board uses 2 Pure Quartz + Polymer).
  • Pal Metal Ingot: 4 Ore + 1 Pure Quartz + 2 Paldium Fragment.
  • Soralite Ingot: 2 Soralite + 2 Pure Quartz.
  • Dragon resist accessories and several Dragon element boosters ask for 15-20 Pure Quartz.
  • Pierdon Cryst always drops Pure Quartz (4-5) if you want a Pal farm.

Chromite

  • Detected with a Metal Detector (Technology level 58) on late islands. PalSphere plots Chromite nodes under the Chromium map filter.
  • Hexolite alloy: 1 Chromite + 1 Hexolite Quartz at a Gigantic Furnace.
  • Mythical Wooden Board needs 5 Chromite with Mythical Wood and Hardwood.
  • Feybreak expeditions and Silvegis / Smokie Pal drops top up Chromite between node runs.

How to get Hexolite

Nightstar Sand

  • Where to find: desert biomes after dark. Item text calls out desert at night.
  • Open the Nightstar map filter (nightStone) and run a circuit before sunset.
  • Used for: Air Dash / Air Walker boots, Beam Sword, and other mobility crafts on the item page.

Coralum Ore

  • Deep-sea ore. Item text points at magnets and fishing rods, not a simple open-world quarry pin.
  • Smelts into Coralum Ingot (2 Coralum Ore + 5 Coal).
  • Oil Rigs, Sakurajima and Feybreak camps, and Sunreach expeditions all roll Coralum Ore in bulk.
  • Also feeds upgraded fishing rods when you are pushing the fishing progression.

Sulfur, Hexolite Quartz, Soralite

  • Sulfur: volcano nodes and Mount Obsidian expeditions. Gunpowder, Polymer path, and high potions.
  • Hexolite Quartz: Feybreak-only rainbow crystal. Pair with Chromite for Hexolite armor and structures.
  • Soralite: Sunreach ore for Soralite Ingots and late World Tree / sky gear. Use Holy Water rules when World Tree nodes are involved.

Building a base around a specific ore

If one ore is bottlenecking you, do not just farm harder on foot. Check whether a plot swap solves the problem permanently instead. A base sitting on top of a dense Chromite or Pure Quartz cluster removes the daily grind entirely, while a base far from those nodes will always feel like a chore no matter how efficient your route is.

Troubleshooting ore that will not smelt

  • Confirm you are holding the right named ore. Ore, Coralum Ore, and Chromite are not interchangeable in any recipe despite all being rocks.
  • Check the furnace tier. Some ingots (Coralum Ingot, Soralite Ingot) need specific furnace unlocks, not just any smelting station.
  • If a node looks empty on the map filter, remember some layers (like Chromite) need a Metal Detector tech unlock before they show reliably.

Prioritizing ore farms by progression stage

  • Early: just Ore and Coal. Do not worry about the rarer types yet.
  • Mid: add Pure Quartz for circuits and Pal Metal, plus Sulfur if you are near a volcano biome.
  • Late: Chromite and Coralum for Hexolite and Coralum Ingot lines, plus Nightstar Sand once mobility accessories matter.
  • Endgame: Soralite for Sunreach and sky gear, rounding out the full ore roster.

Common questions

Short answers for searches that should land here, with links to the item, map pin, or related guide when you need more detail.

Where do I find Chromite in Palworld?
Chromite is detected with a Metal Detector (Technology level 58) on late islands. Feybreak expeditions and Silvegis or Smokie Pal drops also top it up between node runs. How to get Hexolite
What is Pure Quartz used for in Palworld?
Pure Quartz feeds Circuit Boards, Pal Metal Ingot, and Soralite Ingot, plus several Dragon-resist accessories. It is found in snow and cold biomes.
Is Coralum Ore the same as regular Ore?
No. Coralum Ore is a separate deep-sea material that smelts into Coralum Ingot with Coal, not a regular Ingot. It is mainly found via fishing rods, Oil Rigs, and Feybreak or Sunreach expeditions.
