Where to Get Hardwood in Palworld (Wood Types)

Wood looks simple until a recipe suddenly asks for Hardwood or Ancient Bark. Treat the four names as a ladder: common trees, harsh-biome timber, extreme bark, then World Tree Mythical Wood.

Wood

Materials

Material for structures and items. Obtained by chopping down trees. Can be broken down at a Crusher to obtain Fiber.

Hardwood

Materials

High-quality wood carefully selected from sturdy trees grown in harsh environments such as deserts, volcanic regions, and snowy mountains.

Ancient Bark

Materials

The bark of a tree that has lived for many years in extreme environments. Even the thin bark evokes a sense of boundless vitality.

Mythical Wood

Materials

Rare wood imbued with the power of the World Tree. Only skilled craftsmen are able to process it.

Wood (common)

• Chop ordinary trees anywhere. Early structures, bows, and Charcoal all start here.
• Charcoal + Sulfur becomes Gunpowder. Keep a Logging camp stocked so production never stalls.

Hardwood

Hardwood is high-quality timber from harsh biomes (desert, volcanic, snow). Mid and late weapons, bigger inventories, meal pouches, and the Mega Glider chew through it.

• Craft highlights: Mega Glider (100), Large Toolboxes and meal pouches, Double-Barreled Shotgun and Single-Shot Rifle lines, Metal Bats.
• Mythical Wooden Board also asks for 10 Hardwood with Mythical Wood and Chromite.

Ancient Bark

Bark from trees that survived extreme environments. Almost every recipe that asks for it is an accessory, not a building. Farm it on the same desert, volcano, and snow routes you already run for Hardwood.

• Reptyro Charm: 30 Ancient Bark. Huge Fire / heat resistance.
• Air Walker Mk I: 15 Ancient Bark. Mid-air jump and dash.
• Islander's Tool Belt: 30 Ancient Bark. Carry weight and Work Speed.
• Pal Tamer's Glasses: 15 Ancient Bark. Attacks cannot drop a Pal below 1 HP, and they reveal hidden potentials.

Mythical Wood

• World Tree timber. Nodes vanish without World Tree Holy Water active.
• Ancient Relic Recycler also prints Mythical Wood from World Tree relics (Decayed through Glistening tiers).
• Key crafts: Mythical Wooden Board, Wing Cell, Ancient Sphere, explosion-resist accessories.

How much of each wood to stockpile

• Wood: keep a Logging camp running constantly. Early structures and Gunpowder eat through it faster than most players expect.
• Hardwood: bank at least enough for one Mega Glider and a full weapon or armor upgrade before you consider yourself stocked. It disappears fast once mid-game crafts open up.
• Ancient Bark: farm in small bursts when you actually need an accessory. Most Ancient Bark crafts are one-time unlocks, not a repeating sink.
• Mythical Wood: only farmable with Holy Water or a World Tree passive active, so bank a surplus whenever you are already running that circuit rather than making a dedicated trip.

Why late recipes suddenly demand Hardwood or Ancient Bark

Early progression barely touches anything past ordinary Wood, so it catches a lot of players off guard when a mid-game weapon or accessory recipe suddenly asks for Hardwood or Ancient Bark by name. Both come from harsh biomes you may not have explored yet. If a recipe looks stuck despite a full inventory, check whether it wants one of the rarer wood tiers instead of assuming a bug.
