Palworld Sphere Tiers Explained: Capture Power, Craft Costs, and When to Upgrade

Quick answer

Throwing Mega Spheres at a raid boss is not the same problem as stocking a ranch route. Capture Power and sphere tier decide the throw, not vibes. Full steps and links are in this guide.

Every Pal Sphere has a Capture Power number. That number is the sphere half of the catch formula. Pair it with low HP, status effects, a back throw, and Lifmunk Effigy Capture Power at the Statue of Power, and the preview percentage finally stops lying to you.

Sphere ladder (tech level → Capture Power)

  • Pal Sphere (Technology 2): Capture Power 7. One Paldium Fragment. Fine for early wild packs and ranch restocks.
  • Mega Sphere (14): Capture Power 14. Adds Ingot, Wood, and Stone. Your first real step up.
  • Giga Sphere (20): Capture Power 20. Double the Paldium and Ingot of Mega.
  • Hyper Sphere (27): Capture Power 27. The mid-game workhorse once Metal gear lands.
  • Ultra Sphere (35): Capture Power 33. Needs Refined Ingot.
  • Legendary Sphere (44): Capture Power 38. Pal Metal Ingot and Hardwood enter the craft.
  • Ultimate Sphere (51): Capture Power 44. Adds Plasteel.
  • Exotic Sphere (58): Capture Power 50. Hexolite and Plasteel. Built for Pals that shrug off normal spheres.
  • Sol Sphere (67): Capture Power 58. Soralite Ingot craft for late sky / Sunreach catches.
  • Ancient Sphere (74): Capture Power 64. Paloxite Ingot and Mythical Wood. Top craftable tier.

What Capture Power actually does

Capture Power is the sphere's strength rating in the catch roll. Higher tiers close the gap against higher-level Pals. A weak sphere is not "unlucky." It is under-leveled for the target. Lifmunk Effigy offerings raise your personal Capture Power on top of the sphere. Status effects and low HP multiply the same roll. Aim the throw so the in-game preview looks honest before you spam inventory.

Lifmunk Effigies are the permanent Capture Power track. Map every pin before you burn Exotic Spheres.

When lower spheres are fine

  • Ranch and breeding fodder: Pal Sphere or Mega Sphere stock is enough when the Pal is low level and already weakened.
  • Early island sweeps: stay one tier under your Technology unlock only if the preview still shows a real chance.
  • Mass capture XP: cheaper spheres win when you are farming first-10 catches of common species, not legendaries.

When you must upgrade

  • Alpha Pals: treat them like gear checks. Bring Hyper Sphere or better once mid-game Alphas start bouncing Mega Sphere throws.
  • Predator Pals: spheres bounce. Do not stock Legendary Sphere for Predators. Kill them for Predator Cores instead.
  • Raids, tower bosses, and late legendaries: Ultimate Sphere, Exotic Sphere, Sol Sphere, or Ancient Sphere once the preview is a coin flip on Hyper Sphere.
  • Build Sphere Assembly Lines early so upgrading tier is a mat problem, not a crafting bottleneck.

Predator Cores never come from a successful throw. Hunt the predator layer instead.

Modules that change the throw

Sphere Modules bolt onto launchers. Heavy Weight Module and Homing Module raise Capture Power at the cost of range or feel. Sniper Module and Sniper Module Ii stretch range. Curve Module and Slider Module help land back throws. Use modules when the sphere tier is already right and you still miss the angle.

Heavy Weight Module

Heavy Weight Module

Sphere Modules

Equipping it makes the sphere heavier, reducing its range but increasing its capture power.

Homing Module

Homing Module

Sphere Modules

Equipping it makes the sphere home in on Pals, further increasing capture power.

Sniper Module

Sniper Module

Sphere Modules

Equipping it increases the sphere's range, allowing it to sharply capture Pals and enhancing capture power.

Curve Module

Curve Module

Sphere Modules

Equipping it causes the sphere to spin with a curved trajectory. It becomes easier to catch Pals off guard, and increases capture power.
