How to Beat Panthalus in Palworld (World Tree Unlock Fight)

Panthalus is a Water legendary (codename KingWhale in data, Panthalus in your Paldeck). Huge defense, flying mount Partner Skill (Resonant Guardian), and the mandatory capture for the World Tree barrier. If you only kill it, the unlock chain stalls.

How the fight unlocks

• Progress the Azure Covenant / Auri chain until the shrine near the World Tree approach is ready.
• The nearby shrine unlocks. Interact to summon Panthalus. Full step list lives on the World Tree unlock guide.

Prep

• Panthalus is Water. Electric damage is the clean answer. Soak into Electrify still helps if you run dual status.
• Finish Condenser stars and Statue soul ranks on your raid six before the first serious attempt.
• Bring Hyper Sphere or better. You must capture Panthalus for the quest chain.
• Food buffs, repair mats, and typed Skill Fruits for coverage gaps.

Fight tips

• Respect AoE. Heal between patterns, not during them.
• Swap before a death cascade deletes your Electric answer.
• You must capture Panthalus. Killing alone does not finish the researcher quest or open the World Tree barrier.
• After capture, put Panthalus in your active party and interact with the World Tree terminal. Barrier drops permanently.

After you own Panthalus

• Keep Panthalus for Resonant Guardian flying defense and mount utility.
• Breeding: Panthalus is a key parent for closed high-tier breeding clusters once it is in your box.

Why Panthalus feels harder than it looks

Panthalus is not just a big HP bar. Its Resonant Guardian kit hits hard at range and the arena is open water, so there is nowhere to break line of sight and reset. Players who treat it like a normal legendary and tank hits with Neutral or off-type damage tend to burn through spheres and food long before the capture window opens. Bring the Electric answer on purpose, not as an afterthought.

Common mistakes on this fight

• Showing up with a mixed-element party instead of a dedicated Electric answer. Panthalus is Water, and off-type damage stretches the fight far longer than it needs to be.
• Running out of spheres mid-fight because the throw was not planned. This capture is mandatory for the quest chain, so stock more Hyper Spheres than you think you need.
• Skipping food and repair mats and running the fight on empty. Long legendary fights punish under-prepared parties hardest in the final third.
• Forgetting to put Panthalus in the active party after capture. The World Tree terminal will not open the barrier until you do.

If you keep failing the capture

• Whittle Panthalus down further before you start throwing. A lower HP window raises every throw's odds.
• Layer status effects if your party can apply them. Electrify from Soak-into-Electrify combos stacks nicely on a Water target.
• Upgrade sphere tier one step further than you think you need. This is a story-critical capture, not a farm target, so there is no shame in bringing Ultimate Sphere instead of Hyper.
• Offer Lifmunk Effigy Capture Power at the Statue of Power beforehand. That permanent bump applies to every throw, including this one.
