Best Pals by Work Type6 min readBy Taylor G

Best Cooling Pals in Palworld (1.0 Rankings)

Quick answer

Best Cooling Pals in Palworld: top 5 Early, Mid, and End picks for refrigerators, led by Smokie Cryst's essential passive buff.

Refrigerators stop food spoiling. Cooling is dead last on the priority chart, so almost nothing multi-role actually does the job.

Cooling is the lowest default work task priority in the game. Almost every multi-role ice Pal prefers Handiwork, Logging, Mining, or Watering first, so dedicated Cooling-only Pals, hard locks, and one essential partner skill are how fridges actually stay cold.

On the default work task priority chart, Cooling sits at priority 19 (lower number wins). That single number explains most “why won’t this Pal do their job?” tickets: competing suitabilities with a better (lower) rank steal the worker before Cooling ever starts.

How Cooling actually fails at bases

Cooling is the lowest priority in the entire chart. Every other suitability, including Transport (17) and even World-Spawn Harvesting (18), wins the moment it is available. Treat any multi-role Pal's Cooling suitability as decorative. Dedicated Cooling-only Pals, a hard Monitoring Stand lock, or Smokie Cryst's passive buff are the only realistic way a fridge stays cold.

If you only remember one rule for Cooling: either field a Pal whose competing jobs are intermittent (Defense, Aid, Extinguish, Repair, Construction), lock the job on a Monitoring Stand, or use a dedicated Pal with nothing better to do. Multi-role “best stats” picks without a lock are how Cooling queues stall overnight.

How we ranked these

  • Task priority first: prefer Pals that actually stay on Cooling — dedicated workers, Pals whose competing suitabilities lose to it, or a Monitoring Stand lock.
  • Task priority: Cooling (19) loses to literally everything else on the chart, including a Pal's own Transport level. Multi-role Cooling Pals need a lock, full stop.
  • Base buff + Nocturnal, ESSENTIAL: Smokie Cryst has no other job worth mentioning, and her partner skill adds +1 Cooling to every other Base Pal just by living at the base. Her own job assignment doesn't even matter.
  • Dedicated first otherwise: Foxparks Cryst, Jolthog Cryst, Azurobe Cryst, Rayhound Cryst, and Frostallion have no other suitability to compete with Cooling.
  • Bastigor has the highest raw Cooling level in the game (Lv8), but Mining and Logging both tie ahead of it at priority 15. Lock Cooling or he never touches the fridge.
  • Obtainability: the early Cryst variants are simple breeding pathways chains; Frostallion and Smokie Cryst are End catches or dedicated breeding projects.
  • Top 5 per phase. The same Pal can stay best across Mid and End when nothing easier to field beats it.
  • Tap any Pal for full stats, passives, and breeding routes on PalSphere.

Why does your Medicine Pal keep planting, or your fridge Pal keep mining?

Read work task priority order

Quick comparison: what to look for

  • Dedicated Cooling Pals beat higher-level multi-role picks that never show up.
  • Partner-skill base buffs (+1 to every other worker) often outrank one more raw suitability level.
  • Keep at least one nocturnal option so the job does not sleep through the night.
  • Condenser and passives raise speed — they do not change default priority order.

Monitoring Stand and job locks

Open the Monitoring Stand, pick the worker, and lock Cooling when their other suitabilities outrank it. Locks are not a crutch — they are the normal way to run dual-role Pals in 1.0. Remove the lock only when you intentionally want them to backfill another job.

  • Lock Cooling on any Pal whose plant / ranch / generate / kindling / harvest / transport ranks beat it.
  • Keep at least one unlocked “floater” for Repair / Construction so builds and broken benches still get fixed.
  • Re-check locks after you condense or swap passives — work speed changes do not change priority order.

Early game

Foxparks Cryst and Jolthog Cryst are the clean dedicated picks. Everything else early needs Cooling locked over Handiwork or Transport.

Early Cooling is about uptime, not perfect end-game stats. Prefer catches you can field tonight over a breeding project that leaves the bench empty for a week.

    Winter Trapeze

    Lock jobHandiwork3Gathering2Cooling2Transport3

Great early generalist, terrible unlocked cooler. Handiwork, Gathering, and Transport all beat Cooling on his list.

  • Muffly portrait

    Fluffy Flutterer

    Lock jobCooling2Transport1

Even his own Transport level beats Cooling by priority alone. Lock Cooling specifically or he never sits on the fridge.

Mid game

Rayhound Cryst is the one lock-free Mid pick. Univolt Cryst, Pierdon Cryst, Icelyn, and Wumpo all need Cooling locked over a higher-priority job.

Mid game is when partner-skill base buffs and nocturnal coverage matter. If two Pals share a similar Cooling level, take the one that buffs the rest of the base or works while others sleep.

    Frigid Deity

    Lock jobLogging3Cooling6

    Guardian of the Snowy Mountain

    Lock jobHandiwork3Logging5Cooling5Transport6

Handiwork, Logging, and Transport all beat Cooling on his list. Lock Cooling specifically, or see the Transport guide for his passive haul buff instead.

End game

Smokie Cryst's passive buff is the single most important pick here. Frostallion and Azurobe Cryst stay dedicated; Bastigor still needs a lock despite Lv8.

End-game Cooling is rarely “highest suitability number wins.” Condensed passives, Monitoring Stand locks, and not stealing workers for Ranch or Generating usually beat one more raw level.

Only Lv2 Cooling herself, and it doesn't matter, her partner skill adds +1 Cooling to every other Base Pal just by living there, day or night. The single most important pick on this list.

  • Frostallion portrait

    Blizzard Crash

    Lock jobLogging6Mining5Cooling8

Highest Cooling level in the game at Lv8, but Mining and Logging (both 15) beat Cooling (19) every time. Lock Cooling or he never touches the fridge.

  • Whalaska portrait

    Chilled Whale Cruiser

    Lock jobWatering5Cooling6

Watering (12) beats Cooling (19) on his list. Lock Cooling for a reliable Lv6 End fridge Pal.

Common mistakes

  • Staffing Cooling with a high-stat multi-role Pal and never locking the job — then wondering why they ranch or plant all night.
  • Ignoring nocturnal coverage so the entire clinic / fridge / forge sleeps at once.
  • Breeding for work speed before you have a stable cake + food loop — hungry workers abandon ${label} regardless of rank.
  • Forgetting transporters: finished goods sitting on the bench still look like a ${label} failure.
