Palworld Crude Oil Extractors After v1.0.3: Cheaper Builds, Faster Output
Quick answer
Technology level 50 for 2 Technology points. The High-pressure Crude Oil Extractor unlocks at level 51 as an Ancient technology costing 4 Ancient Technology Points.
Oil extractors used to cost more base footprint than they were worth. v1.0.3 cut the build costs, sped up production, and fixed the mission that punished you for building the better pump.
Crude oil is the gate on plastics, Plasteel, and most of the late crafting tree, and for a long stretch of 1.0 the extractors that produce it were a bad deal. They cost a lot to build, produced slowly, and the base mission that asked for one refused to acknowledge the upgraded version. v1.0.3 fixed all three complaints in the same patch.
Crude Oil Extractor
Technology 50
Equipment required to extract Crude Oil from oil fields. Requires a power supply to operate.
High-pressure Crude Oil Extractor
Technology 51, Ancient
A device that pumps and extracts Crude Oil from deep underground. It can produce Crude Oil even in areas without oil fields, but it can only be placed on open ground with no structures beneath it. It requires a far greater supply of electricity than the Crude Oil Extractor.

Crude Oil
Materials
Material that can be processed into various products. Obtained by installing a Crude Oil Extractor on an oil field.
What actually changed
- Build costs fell for the Crude Oil Extractor, the High-pressure Crude Oil Extractor, and the Large Power Generator.
- Both extractors now produce crude oil faster.
- The base mission that asked for a Crude Oil Extractor now also accepts a High-pressure Crude Oil Extractor, which removes the awkward soft lock where you had already built the better pump.
- Unlock levels did not move. Crude Oil Extractor sits at Technology 50 for 2 points, and High-pressure sits at 51 as an Ancient unlock costing 4 Ancient Technology Points.

v1.0.3 reviewWhich pump to build
The High-pressure extractor is the better machine but it is an Ancient unlock, and 4 Ancient Technology Points is a real budget decision when the same points compete with other endgame unlocks. The practical answer for most players is to build standard extractors first, confirm your oil nodes and power grid are stable, and upgrade once the base is actually consuming the output.
- Standard extractor at Technology 50 costs regular Technology points, so it is the low-risk first build.
- High-pressure at 51 costs Ancient Technology Points. Spend them only once your oil demand is real and continuous.
- Since the mission now accepts either pump, there is no reason to keep a redundant standard extractor purely for quest credit.
- Both are cheaper than they were, so a second pump is a far more reasonable ask than it was pre-patch.
Confirm both unlock rows and your current Ancient point budget.
Open TechnologyLaying out an oil base
Oil bases fail for boring reasons. The pump sits too far from storage, the power grid browns out, or nothing is assigned to move the output. None of those are fixed by the patch, so a cheaper extractor just means you now have budget left over to fix them properly.
- Place the extractor directly over the node and put a chest within a few steps. Every extra step is throughput lost on a long production cycle.
- Put the Large Power Generator on the same grid, and size it for the whole base rather than for the pump alone.
- Assign Transport-capable Pals nearby so output actually reaches storage instead of pooling at the machine.
- Keep the oil base defended. It is usually remote, and remote bases are the ones that get raided while you are elsewhere.

Base defenseWhat the oil is for
If you are building extractors without a consumption plan, you will end up with full chests and no progression. Oil feeds plastics and the Plasteel line, which in turn gates a large share of the late Technology tree. Decide which craft you are chasing, work backward to the oil requirement, and size the pumps to that number rather than building for maximum theoretical output.

- What level is the Crude Oil Extractor in Palworld?
- Technology level 50 for 2 Technology points. The High-pressure Crude Oil Extractor unlocks at level 51 as an Ancient technology costing 4 Ancient Technology Points. Open Technology
- Did v1.0.3 buff crude oil extractors?
- Yes. Build costs fell for both extractors and the Large Power Generator, both extractors produce faster, and the base mission that asked for a Crude Oil Extractor now also accepts the High-pressure version. v1.0.3 review
- Should I build the High-pressure extractor right away?
- Only once your oil consumption is continuous. It costs 4 Ancient Technology Points, which compete with other endgame unlocks, so most players build standard extractors first and upgrade when demand justifies it.
- Why is my crude oil extractor not producing?
- Check power first, then confirm the extractor is actually on a crude oil node and that Transport-capable Pals are assigned nearby. Output pooling at the machine with nothing moving it is the most common cause of an oil base that looks broken. Pals not transporting
