Best Medicine Pals in Palworld: Why They Leave the Bench and How to Lock Them
Quick answer
Felbat. It has Medicine 3 and no other work suitability, so it never leaves the bench. Lovander and Katress are the next best because they choose Medicine over their other jobs without a lock.
Medicine Production sits at priority 12. Ranch, Kindling, Cooking, Harvest, and Planting all rank higher, so most healers farm instead of crafting cures. Felbat, Lovander, and Katress stay put. Everyone else needs a lock.
Your Medicine Workbench sits idle while Lyleen tends crops. That is not a bug. Base Pals always take the highest-priority job they are allowed to do, and Medicine Production is further down the list than most players expect. A Pal with Planting and Medicine will plant first, every time.
The fix is either a Pal that naturally prefers Medicine or a Monitoring Stand lock. This page covers both, plus what each Medicine Workbench tier crafts. The Best Medicine Pals ranking lists the full top five per stage.
Where Medicine sits on the priority chart
Medicine Production is priority 12, tied with Watering. Lower numbers win. These jobs all beat it:
- Defense (1), Aid and Extinguish (2), Construction (3). Short interruptions, the Pal comes back fast.
- Assigned Workstation (4). A fixed assignment. This is the one you use to force Medicine.
- Farming on the Ranch (5), Generating Electricity (6), Repair (7).
- Refinement and Kindling (8), Cooking (9).
- Farm Harvest and Food Transport (10), Planting and Farm Watering (11).
Medicine does beat Handiwork (13), Mining and Lumbering (14-15), every Transport row (16-17), World Spawn Harvesting (18), and Cooling (19). So a Pal whose other jobs are only in that lower group stays on the bench without help.
Dedicated and self-locking Medicine Pals
These Pals choose Medicine on their own. Lovander and Katress even pick it over a higher Handiwork level, because priority order beats suitability level. All three are nocturnal, so a night clinic needs no extra staff.

Lock Medicine on these, or they farm and ranch instead.
Lock procedure: keep a healer on the bench
- Unlock the Monitoring Stand at level 7 for 2 Technology Points and place it in your base.
- Open the stand and select your healer.
- Disable Planting, Farming, Gathering, and any other job that ranks above Medicine. Leave Medicine Production on.
- For a hard lock, fixed-assign the Pal to the Medicine Workbench. That counts as Assigned Workstation at priority 4, which beats even the Ranch.
- Put the ingredients in a chest next to the bench so the queue never starves.
- Turn on Allow Transport by Pals at the bench so finished medicine moves into storage.
- Build a Medicine Rack at level 24. Item text says sick Pals come to it to take their medicine, so keep it stocked.
- If a Pal is sleeping, eating, or on a break, wait and assign again.
Match level to the bench. Advanced Medicine Workbench recipes need Medicine Production Lv3. Felbat, Lyleen, Prunelia, and Vaelet qualify on their own. Lovander and Katress need Mycora's +1 or an Applied Medicine Production Handbook I from the Medal Vendor.

Medieval Medicine Workbench
Level 12
A facility for making Pal medicine. It can only produce simple medicines. Leave its operation to a Pal that can make medicine.
Electric Medicine Workbench
Level 43
A facility for making Pal medicine. It requires electricity, but can produce high quality medicine. Leave its operation to a Pal that can make medicine.
Advanced Medicine Workbench
Level 61
A facility for making medicine to cure Pals' illnesses. With advanced technology, it can also create unknown medicines. Assign the task to a Pal capable of pharmacy work.
Medicine Rack
Level 24
A shelf for storing medicine. Sick Pals will come here to take their medicine. Be sure to keep the medicine stocked.

Low Grade Medical Supplies
Sick, Sprain
Low Grade Medical Supplies good for Sick, Sprain, and Overfull. They don't heal Health when eaten, however.

Medical Supplies
Ulcer, Fracture
Strange Medical Supplies that are effective at treating Ulcer and Fracture. Unfortunately, they have no healing effect.

Revival Potion
Medicine Lv3
A potion that revives a Pal that has been injured and is unable to move.

Cotton Candy
Woolipop ranch
Cotton candy collected from Woolipop. Its sweetness fluffily melts away in your mouth.
Cotton Candy is the ingredient most clinics run short on. Woolipop drops it on the Ranch, so one Woolipop in the pen keeps the Recovery Meds line supplied.
Common clinic mistakes
- Trusting Lyleen as an unlocked healer. Planting beats Medicine on her sheet.
- Putting Beegarde or Sibelyx on clinic duty. Ranch at priority 5 wins long before Medicine at 12.
- Locking a healer but leaving ingredients across the base. The queue stalls and it looks like the lock failed.
- Building the Advanced Medicine Workbench with only Lv2 healers. Get Mycora or a handbook first.
- Skipping the Medicine Rack. Finished medicine does not help sick Pals sitting in a chest.
