Palworld Ancient Dresser: How the Antique Dresser Changes Gear Looks and Keeps Stats

Quick answer

The building is called the Antique Dresser in game and unlocks at Technology level 21 for 1 Ancient Technology Point. It needs no power and no assigned Pal.

Fashion without throwing away your legendary rolls. That is the entire point of the dresser, and it unlocks far earlier than most players realise.

The building most players call the Ancient Dresser is actually named the Antique Dresser in game, and it does two separate jobs. It lets you edit your character's appearance, and it lets you override how your equipped gear looks while keeping every stat on it. That second job is the one worth building for.

One structure, two cosmetic systems

Unlock and cost

  • Technology level 21 on the Ancient tree.
  • 1 Ancient Technology Point, which is the cheapest tier of Ancient unlock.
  • Placed like any other furniture inside a base. It needs no power and no assigned Pal.

Level 21 for one Ancient point is remarkably cheap for a quality of life unlock this permanent. If you have been putting it off because you assumed it was an endgame building, it is not, and there is no reason to wait.

What it changes and what it keeps

The cosmetic override is a pure appearance layer. Nothing about the item underneath moves.

  • Changes: the visual model of the armor and headgear you have equipped.
  • Keeps: defence values, rarity, and every stat roll on the actual equipped piece.
  • Keeps: resistance properties, so a Cold-resistant piece stays cold resistant even while it looks like something else.
  • Also does: full character appearance edits, which is the original purpose of the furniture.

In practice this means you can wear your best-rolled Ancient Armor for the numbers and look like whatever cosmetic set you actually like. That is the whole appeal, and it is why every cosmetic quest reward in the game points back to this building.

How to use it

  • Build the Antique Dresser somewhere you pass often. You will use it more than you expect.
  • Equip the gear you want the stats from first. The override applies on top of what you are currently wearing.
  • Interact with the dresser and pick the appearance you want from the cosmetics you have unlocked.
  • Cosmetic sets have to be unlocked before they appear as options, usually from quests, events, or external rewards.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting the dresser to give you cosmetics. It applies looks you already own, it does not grant them.
  • Confusing it with the Pal Dressing Facility. The dresser is for your character and your gear. Pal skins are a different building entirely.
  • Crafting a cosmetic armor piece and then wearing it for real, losing the stats from your good armor. Wear the good armor, override the look.
  • Building it late. At level 21 for one Ancient point there is no reason to delay.

Where cosmetics come from

Cosmetic sets arrive from a handful of sources, and the dresser is what makes any of them usable without a stat penalty. The Depresso Suit is the clearest example: the Wannabe Depresso Islander even tells you outright that with a dresser you can look like a Depresso no matter what armor you are wearing.
