Reaching four stars in 1.0 takes 48 same-species duplicates, spread unevenly across the ranks. That distribution is why Ripe Starfruit is worth so much more at the top than the bottom.

The spending rule

• Save every Ripe Starfruit for the fourth rank. Always. It is the only rank where the duplicate cost is genuinely painful.
• Cover ranks one through three with duplicates. 24 copies across three ranks is an evening of breeding, not a project.
• The exception is a Pal you cannot breed or re-catch. For those, spend the fruit wherever it unblocks you.
• If you have tiered Starfruit sitting in a chest, use those on their matching rank and keep the Ripe ones in reserve.

Which Pals deserve the fruit

Condensing is permanent and species-specific, so the fruit should go to a Pal you have already decided to keep. Every star gives plus 5 percent Health, Attack, and Defence, plus a work suitability increase, which means the value depends entirely on whether that Pal has a long-term job.

• Legendary and Sealed Realm Pals, where duplicates mean re-fighting a boss or re-clearing a one-off dungeon.
• Your main raid Pal, because the fourth rank is where the stat total actually starts to feel different.
• Condensed humans for Handiwork, since 24 more camp captures is a genuinely long grind.
• Skip: anything you breed in volume. Duplicates are free there, so the fruit is wasted.

Where Ripe Starfruit comes from

The reliable source is the Bounty Officer exchange at 50 Successful Bounty Tokens, which is double the price of a stat fruit. Dog Coin merchants are the other route on saves where you have a coin income set up.

• 50 Successful Bounty Tokens from a Bounty Officer in a village or town.
• That is two stat fruits worth of tokens, so the opportunity cost is real.
• Buy stat fruits first if your Pal is not yet at rank three, since you will not need the Starfruit until then.

Work suitability is the hidden argument

Stat percentages are the obvious reward, but the work suitability increases are often the reason to finish a condense. Ranks one through three each add plus one to a suitability, walking from the Pal's highest downward, and rank four adds plus one to every suitability it has. For a specialist worker, that fourth rank is a base-wide throughput upgrade.
