Pal Condenser & Work Books: Stars, Suitability Lv10 and Starfruit
Quick answer
How the Pal Essence Condenser and Work Suitability books work in Palworld 1.0, when to use Starfruit and how to build Lv10 workers efficiently.
Forty-eight copies get a Pal to max stars; work books push suitability to 10 without waiting on the wild spawn table.
Condenser stars raise Partner Skill power and combat investment. Work Suitability books raise job levels toward the Level 10 cap. Use both on permanent base slots. These are two separate systems that both aim at the same problem: your wild-caught Pal is usually worse than the maxed version of the same species, and Palworld gives you a currency-and-copies way to close that gap without needing a perfect catch. Condensing is a per-Pal investment that sticks to that individual; it does not transfer if you release the Pal or catch a fresh one.
Condenser star costs
- Rank 1: 4 copies · Rank 2: 8 · Rank 3: 12 · Rank 4: 24
- Total: 48 additional Pals of the same species for max rank.
- Starfruit can skip copies when Dog Coins are cheaper than farming.
- Copies must be the same species as the Pal being condensed; a variant with a different codename (Ignis, Lux, Noct, and similar) does not count toward the base form's requirement.
- You keep the stars if you never touch that individual Pal again, but if you catch a fresh copy of the same species later, that new Pal starts back at zero stars.

Forty-eight copies sounds brutal for a rare species, and for some it is. Common early Pals like Lamball, Cattiva, or Chikipi are everywhere, so maxing their stars costs almost nothing but a few minutes of running around. Rarer late-game species, bosses, and anything you only find in one or two spots on the map are a different story: farming forty-eight copies of a rare spawn by hand can eat hours. That gap is exactly why Starfruit exists.
- Breed for copies whenever the species can be a breeding result. A Breeding Farm producing duplicates while you do other things is almost always cheaper than manual catch runs.
- Capture wild spawns for species with dense, farmable spawn points. Check the interactive map for known spawn clusters before you assume a species is rare.
- Spend Dog Coins on Starfruit when a species is slow to farm by any method. Starfruit tiers (☆1 through ☆4) trade currency for guaranteed rank progress instead of copies.
- Run Expedition Station missions on spare Pals to keep Dog Coins flowing while you decide which condenser target is next.
Dog Coins from expeditions convert straight into Starfruit for stubborn condenser targets.

Work books vs stars
Books equalize suitability so a naturally low logger can still hit Lv10 Logging. Stars amplify Partner Skills; ranch and fishing Pals especially want max stars; pure bench workers often want books first. Every Pal has a base suitability level per job, usually somewhere between 0 and 3 for jobs it is naturally good at, and Work Suitability books add flat levels on top of that base, one book per level, up to the Lv10 cap per job. A Pal with zero natural Kindling suitability needs ten Kindling books to hit the cap; a Pal that already rolls Lv3 Kindling only needs seven.
Books are consumed one at a time and are job-specific, so a stack of Mining books does nothing for a Lumbering slot. They mostly drop from human enemy camps, syndicate bases, and higher-tier chests rather than wild Pal drops, so treat clearing bases and dungeons as your book supply line instead of grinding a single farm spot. Because the whole stack of ten books per job per Pal adds up fast across a large roster, prioritize the jobs your base actually bottlenecks on: Kindling and Watering for furnace-heavy setups, Handiwork for crafting throughput, and Transporting for any base with a sprawling layout.
Which upgrade first
- Condense first: any Pal whose value comes mainly from its Partner Skill firing more often or hitting harder. Ranch Pals, fishing Pals, and mount Pals all fall in this bucket.
- Book first: dedicated bench workers on Handiwork, Kindling, Watering, or Transporting where raw suitability level, not Partner Skill, decides output speed.
- Do both eventually for permanent roster anchors: a Pal that is never leaving your active lineup earns out both investments over a long enough base life.
- Skip both for rotating fodder. Do not sink books or Starfruit into a Pal you are still deciding whether to keep.
Confirm a Pal's default work-task priority before spending books on a job it will rarely be assigned to.
