Palworld Ominous Eggs: Locations, Hatch List, and vs Mutated Eggs

Quick answer

Look for wild Ominous Egg pickups around the Foot of the World Tree and nearby World Tree terrain. They are ground pickups, not a common chest or Pal drop.

Ominous Eggs are the World Tree egg line. They are not Mutated Eggs, and they are not a random element egg with spooky art.

Ominous Eggs are mysterious eggs imbued with World Tree energy. You incubate them like any other egg. The difference is where you find them, what can hatch, and the World Tree passives they carry.

Size ladder

How they differ from normal eggs

  • They are their own World Tree egg line, not Fire, Water, Verdant, or other regional eggs.
  • Same size ladder as other eggs: normal, Large, and Huge.
  • Hatch speed still follows normal egg rules. Ominous Eggs do not get a special incubate table.
  • What hatches comes from the World Tree egg pool, not the usual element-egg lists.

Where to find them

Look for wild Ominous Egg pickups around the Foot of the World Tree and nearby World Tree terrain. They are not a common chest drop, and defeating Pals is not a reliable way to get the shell itself. Explore the region and grab the eggs you find on the ground.

Sweep the World Tree region for Ominous Egg pickups and related loot.

Shaolong is in the hatch pool and also wild. Pin him if you want a catch before egg luck hits.

What can hatch

Ominous Eggs hatch late-game Pals from a fixed World Tree pool. Exact odds per Pal are not known yet. Confirmed pool members include:

Dupin likewise. Use the breeding calculator if you already own part of the chain.

Guaranteed World Tree passives

Ominous hatches get one World Tree passive from this set (even odds):

  • Twin-Edged Holy Blade: Attack +50%, Defense -30%.
  • Sanctified Meat Shield: Defense +50%, Attack -30%.
  • Demon’s Hand: Work Speed +90%, SAN drains faster.
  • World Tree Seedbed: Hunger -50%, HP -20%.
  • Hermit Sage: SAN drain -50%, Work Speed -20%.
  • Dimensional Leap: Move Speed +50%, Hunger rises faster.
  • God of Destruction: Attack +40%, Defense +20%, Max HP -50%.

All of these passives also stop World Tree resources from vanishing when you get close.

Not the same as Mutated Eggs

A Mutated Egg comes from rare breeding mutations, uses a different passive pool, and always hatches Alpha. An Ominous Egg is a World Tree field egg. If the shell says Mutated Egg, read the Mutated Eggs guide instead.

Side-by-side with the Mutated Egg line, including CombiRank upgrades.

Mutated Eggs explained

Why players keep mixing these two up

Both eggs sound mysterious, both feel rare when you first find one, and both come with a set of build-defining passives. The difference is entirely about where the egg comes from. If you picked it up walking around the Foot of the World Tree, it is an Ominous Egg with the fixed World Tree hatch pool above. If it came out of a Breeding Farm mutation roll, it is a Mutated Egg with a completely different set of rules. Read the exact item name before you get excited about which passive you might land.

Deciding which Pal to hatch for

  • If you want a specific Pal from the hatch pool (Solenne and Dupin are popular targets), keep sweeping World Tree pickups. There is no way to force a specific result from the pool.
  • If you just want a strong World Tree passive on a Pal you already own, hatching multiple Ominous Eggs and keeping the best roll is more efficient than chasing one exact species.
  • Twin-Edged Holy Blade and Sanctified Meat Shield are the two most build-relevant passives for combat Pals. Demon's Hand and Hermit Sage matter more for dedicated base workers.

Storage and inventory tips

  • Ominous Eggs still follow normal incubate rules, so plan incubator space the same way you would for any other egg size.
  • If you are running a dedicated World Tree sweep, bring a Transport Pal or clear inventory space ahead of time. Eggs pile up fast alongside Holy Water and relics on the same route.
  • Do not hatch immediately if you are unsure which passive you want. There is no way to reroll after the egg opens, so only crack it when you are ready to commit that Pal to a build.

Common questions

Short answers for searches that should land here, with links to the item, map pin, or related guide when you need more detail.

Where do Ominous Eggs spawn in Palworld?
Look for wild Ominous Egg pickups around the Foot of the World Tree and nearby World Tree terrain. They are ground pickups, not a common chest or Pal drop. Open World Tree map
Can I choose which Pal hatches from an Ominous Egg?
No. The hatch comes from a fixed World Tree pool and the exact odds per Pal are not published. If you want a specific species like Solenne or Dupin, keep hatching and hope, or check its dedicated breeding page for parent pairs instead. How to breed Solenne
Do Ominous Eggs always hatch with a World Tree passive?
Yes. Every Ominous hatch gets one passive from the fixed set (Twin-Edged Holy Blade, Sanctified Meat Shield, Demon's Hand, World Tree Seedbed, Hermit Sage, Dimensional Leap, or God of Destruction) at even odds.
