How to Install Palworld Mods in 1.0 (Workshop + UE4SS)

Palworld 1.0 finally has an official mod path. Steam Workshop plus Options → Mod Management is the default. Manual UE4SS folders are the fallback, not the first lesson.

In 1.0, Pocketpair ships an official mod loader for the Steam client. Subscribe on Workshop, enable the package in Mod Management, and let Palworld deploy it. That path handles dependencies and updates better than dumping files into Binaries by hand.

Before you install anything

  • Back up your saves. Mods can corrupt worlds. Copy the world folder from the in-game folder icon first.
  • Read the mod page for a 1.0 / current-build note. Early Access leftovers break often after patches.
  • Install one mod at a time. If something crashes, you know which package to disable.
  • Remove old manual proxy DLLs if you are moving to Workshop UE4SS. Mixing both loaders causes weird failures.

Steam Workshop (recommended on Steam)

  • Open the mod’s Steam Workshop page and Subscribe. Use Subscribe to all / Required Items when Steam shows dependencies.
  • Launch Palworld → Options → Mod Management.
  • Enable the mod. Fix any missing-dependency warning before you save.
  • Let the game restart or relaunch so the loader can deploy files.
  • Play once, then quit normally. If the mod ships logs (UE4SS), skim them after the first boot.

Updates: Steam downloads new Workshop packages. Palworld redeploys when the package Version changes. If a page says updated but nothing changed in-game, restart Steam, confirm the download, then relaunch Palworld.

UE4SS (when a mod requires it)

  • Many Lua / LogicMods / PalSchema packages need UE4SS as a dependency.
  • On Steam, prefer the Workshop UE4SS package the mod author tested. Enable it in Mod Management with the dependent mod.
  • Manual install (fallback): Steam → Palworld → Manage → Browse local files → Pal/Binaries/Win64. Place dwmapi.dll in Win64 and the ue4ss folder beside it, matching the author’s build notes.
  • Use the UE4SS build the mod names. Newest upstream is not always the Palworld-compatible one.

Game Pass / Xbox PC

  • Steam Workshop does not cover WinGDK the same way.
  • Follow the mod author’s Game Pass instructions. Paths usually land under Pal/Binaries/WinGDK instead of Win64.
  • Expect more manual work and slower updates after patches.

What people usually install

Names churn after every patch. Search Workshop for current 1.0-tagged packages in these buckets:

  • Quality of life: inventory weight help at base, less painful building rules, map / travel helpers.
  • Information: Pal analyzers, better tooltips, breeding helpers.
  • Creative / sandbox: build menus and creative tools for decoration worlds (keep them off your serious survival save).
  • Always prefer packages that list UE4SS or PalSchema dependencies clearly and show recent 1.0 updates.

Dedicated servers and mods

  • Client mods change what you see on your PC. Friends need the same client mods only when the author says so.
  • True server-side mod loading is largely Windows dedicated-server territory. Many hosts run Linux binaries, so Workshop server mods may not apply.
  • For multiplayer without fighting the host OS, change rates, difficulty, and limits in the server panel first.
  • Hosting a friend world? Pair this with the server guide and Shockbyte plans.

Quick troubleshooting

  • Mod subscribed but nothing happens: enable it in Mod Management and restart.
  • Dependency warning: subscribe to Required Items (often UE4SS).
  • Crash on boot after a game update: disable mods, update Workshop packages, re-enable one by one.
  • Leftover Early Access files in Win64: remove old xinput/dwmapi experiments before using Workshop UE4SS.
