Palworld Movement Gear: Grappling Guns, Air Dash, and Jump Boots

Quick answer

Five: Grappling Gun at level 12, Mega at 17, Giga at 31, Hyper at 49, and Ultra at 63. Each requires the previous tier, and the full chain costs 15 Ancient Technology Points.

The full traversal kit in Palworld 1.0 costs 46 Ancient Technology Points, a quarter of the entire ancient budget. It is also the reason the map stops feeling large.

Palworld 1.0 spreads traversal across four Ancient Technology lines: five grappling gun tiers, three air dash boot tiers, two jump boot tiers, and the Anti-gravity Belt. Buying every one of them plus the Wing Pack costs 46 Ancient Technology Points, which is roughly a quarter of the 182 point total for the whole ancient tree. It is the largest single theme in that budget and most players underestimate it badly.

The good news is that the first tier of each line is cheap and the returns are front-loaded. The Grappling Gun at level 12 costs one point and changes how you move immediately. The Ultra Grappling Gun at level 63 costs five and changes how far.

The grappling gun ladder

  • Grappling Gun, level 12, 1 Ancient Point. No prerequisite. Buy it the moment you can.
  • Mega Grappling Gun, level 17, 2 points. Requires the base gun.
  • Giga Grappling Gun, level 31, 3 points. Requires Mega.
  • Hyper Grappling Gun, level 49, 4 points. Requires Giga.
  • Ultra Grappling Gun, level 63, 5 points. Requires Hyper. 15 points for the full chain.
Grappling Gun

Grappling Gun

Giga Grappling Gun

Giga Grappling Gun

Level 31, 3 ancient points

It fires a hook that latches on to distant targets, pulling the user's body towards the target. Using data from prototype versions, its capabilities have been further increased.

Ultra Grappling Gun

Ultra Grappling Gun

Level 63, 5 ancient points

It fires a hook that latches on to distant targets, pulling the user's body towards the target. With new materials, cooldown time has been significantly reduced.

The chained grappling line. Each tier requires the one before it.

Every movement unlock with its level, cost, and prerequisite chain.

Boots and belt

The air dash and jump lines are where the ancient budget gets expensive. Air Dash Boots at level 35 cost 2 points, Double Air Dash at 61 costs 5, and Triple Air Dash at 65 costs 6, for 13 points across the line. Jump Boots run 2 points at level 40 and 6 at level 70. The Anti-gravity Belt at level 28 is 2 points and is the cheapest vertical mobility in the game.

  • Anti-gravity Belt, level 28, 2 points. Best value in the movement set after the base grappling gun.
  • Air Dash Boots, level 35, 2 points. The single biggest change to how you cross terrain.
  • Double Jump Boots, level 40, 2 points. Cheap and immediately useful for climbing routes.
  • Double Air Dash Boots, level 61, 5 points, and Triple Air Dash Boots, level 65, 6 points. Both are luxury.
  • Triple Jump Boots, level 70, 6 points, and they are gated behind the Sorajima Boss on top of the level.

Double Jump Boots

Double Jump Boots

Level 40, 2 ancient points

An accessory that allows the player to jump in mid-air when equipped.

The cheap movement unlocks worth buying the moment you hit the level.

Where the Wing Pack fits

The Wing Pack at level 80 costs 9 Ancient Points, the most expensive single entry in the ancient tree. It arrives at the level cap, which means it is the last thing you buy rather than a mid-game plan, and it competes directly against the Ancient Hatchery at 8 points. If you only get one, decide whether you would rather fly without a Pal or hatch faster.

Wing Pack unlock, fuel, and whether it replaces a flying mount.

Flying mounts are the cheaper answer to the same problem.

A movement buying order

  • Level 12: Grappling Gun. One point, no prerequisite, instant payoff.
  • Level 17: Mega Grappling Gun. Two points and the chain has to start somewhere.
  • Level 28 to 40: Anti-gravity Belt, Air Dash Boots, Double Jump Boots. Six points total for the biggest traversal jump in the game.
  • Level 49 to 63: continue the grappling chain if you are exploring heavily, otherwise bank points for base infrastructure.
  • Level 65 plus: Triple Air Dash, Triple Jump, then the Wing Pack. Twenty-one points of pure luxury and worth it only if the rest of your list is done.
