The Capture Bonus Reset in Palworld 1.0: Farming XP with Effigies

Quick answer

Bonus experience maxes out at 5 captures of a specific Pal type. Past that, the marginal reward drops off, so rotate to a different species once you hit five instead of grinding the same one to ten like the old system.

The old 10-catch experience chain was overhauled, the sweet spot moved, and effigies feed right into it.

Catching duplicates for big experience chunks got reworked in 1.0. The old system rewarded chains up to 10 catches; the new loop maxes its bonus experience earlier, so your farming pattern should change if you are still running the Early Access habit of grinding one species to ten.

The new 5-catch sweet spot

Bonus experience is maximized at 5 captures per specific Pal type. Past that point the marginal reward falls off, so rotate to a new species once you hit five rather than grinding the same one to ten. This is the single biggest change to plan around if capture XP is part of your leveling strategy.

Stacking with Pal Effigies

This loop integrates with hunting Palworld 1.0's Pal Effigy system, which offers permanent player buffs (including the Mimog Effigy's move speed track, earned specifically from capture volume) across the larger 1.0 map. Collect effigies as you travel, then run tight 5-catch cycles per species to convert the improved catch rate and buffs into fast, efficient XP.

Running an efficient 5-catch rotation

  • Plan a travel route that passes through several different species' spawn zones rather than parking at one dense spawn.
  • Bring enough spheres for a full rotation of five-per-species cycles so you are not interrupted mid-loop by a supply run.
  • Pair the rotation with status effects to speed up each individual capture, since faster catches mean more five-catch cycles per session.
  • Track which species you have already cycled through on a session so you do not accidentally over-catch one and waste captures past the sweet spot.

Does the effigy Mimog track ever run out

The Mimog Effigy track needs a large number of cumulative offerings to fully max, far more than the common world-pickup tracks, so treat it as a long-haul side goal rather than something you clear in one session. It grows naturally alongside normal capture activity, so most of the progress happens without a dedicated grind if you are already playing and catching regularly.

Why the reset happened

The 1.0 map roughly doubled in size, with far more species spread across far more spawn zones than the original islands. A 10-catch chain made sense when your options were limited; capping the bonus at 5 catches nudges players toward exploring the bigger map and cycling through more species instead of parking at one familiar spawn for the whole session.

Track effigy locations and capture targets on the map.

Common questions

Short answers for searches that should land here, with links to the item, map pin, or related guide when you need more detail.

How many catches give the best XP bonus per species in Palworld 1.0?
Bonus experience maxes out at 5 captures of a specific Pal type. Past that, the marginal reward drops off, so rotate to a different species once you hit five instead of grinding the same one to ten like the old system.
Do Pal Effigies help with capture experience farming in Palworld?
Yes, effigies raise different player stats including capture power and move speed (via the Mimog Effigy track), which speeds up how quickly you can complete each five-catch rotation across the map. 1.0 Effigies guide
What changed about the capture bonus system in Palworld 1.0?
The bonus experience chain used to reward catches up to 10 of the same species. In 1.0, the bonus caps at 5 catches per Pal type, so efficient XP farming means rotating species rather than repeating one.
